A flexible open space furniture, developed for the courtyard of the Vienna “Werk- und Kulturstätten” that would create a common identity while being practical.

The initial idea of developing a free-standing and additive piece of furniture turned into a partially fixed seating and lounging landscape during the design process at the request of the client.
Nevertheless, the user is invited to adopt the object by folding and anchoring the seating and reclining elements according to his or her own needs.
The modularity and systematics of the equilateral triangle enables a flexible, versatile and intuitive use of the street furniture.
The bending resistant core made of 8mm thick plywood, sawn in the shape of a triangle, is wrapped with a high performance and robust textile. This takes over the function of the hinge and thus playfully allows the most diverse sculptures. The seat and reclining surface can be folded and anchored by the user according to his or her own needs. High-performance magnets running along the edges invisibly hold the furniture sculpture in shape and provide additional stability when folded.
The initial idea to develop a free-standing and additive piece of furniture turned in the course of the design process and at the request of the client into a partially fixed seating and lounging landscape to protect against theft.
A weatherproof textile made of polyvinyl chloride encloses a core made of 8mm thick weatherproof glued birch plywood and closed porous packing foam.
Polyvinyl chloride is chemically very resistant. It is not attacked by salt solutions, acids, alkalis, non-polar solvents, gasoline, mineral oil, low alcohols, ozone, fats and fatty oils. With appropriate stabilization, PVC is extremely resistant to light and weathering. It has little tendency to stress cracking and is considered flame retardant. Due to these positive properties and its low cost, polyvinyl chloride polyvinyl chloride was selected as the suitable textile.
The material was processed using an appropriate resistance welding device. In this process, electrodes generate a short-term heat that partially melts the clamped material. Fabric webs are thus bonded together in a watertight manner and outdoor use is possible.
Fire hose is characterized by particularly high durability and resistance. The fabric made of high-strength synthetic fibers is lined with rubber (e.g. EPDM, NBR or others) or plastics for sealing. The hoses are dyed, printed, impregnated or made of spun-dyed yarn as required. For special requirements, highly resistant, abrasion-resistant outer coatings are applied. The hoses are foldable and dimensionally stable.
